Where Can You Bet In Person at NFL Stadiums in Ohio?

News November 15, 2022

Where can you place a sports wager in-person at the sports stadiums in Ohio? From Cleveland stadiums to Cincinnati-based team locations.

After passing legislation in December 2021, sports betting will officially launch in Ohio on January 1, 2023, at midnight. This was announced by Matt Schuler, the Casino Control Commission Executive Director.

With sports betting coming to Ohio, it’ll be in a state with two professional football teams – the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.

In other areas where sports betting is legal such as Washington D.C., there are options available for betting on-site at each stadium. Here, we’ll examine each stadium and any partnerships or plans to allow in-person bets while at the game.

Cleveland Browns: FirstEnergy Stadium

Can you bet in person at FirstEnergy Stadium? This is still unknown.

On April 26, 2022, the Cleveland Browns announced a partnership with Bally’s Interactive to be the official sports betting partner under their Bally Bet Brand.

With this, speculation about whether or not bets will be allowed on site at the stadium is warranted, but we may have an answer.

The partnership with Bally Bet included a Bally Bet sports betting lounge patrons can attend to make wagers. The same is the case with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Guardians, who partnered with other sites.

“In addition to their incredible resources and expertise, Bally’s Interactive has the fan-first mindset that is consistent with our focus and pivotal to creating successful, fully-integrated sports betting experiences, and we look forward to supporting Bally’s efforts to provide these innovative opportunities to Browns fans and all sports fans in Ohio shortly,” said Dave Jenkins, executive vice-president, and chief operating officer of the Browns’ parent company, Haslam Sports Group.

However, there are some caveats here. Per NFL rules and regulations, the Browns may not be allowed to offer gameday wagers on site, per Sean McDonnell of Cleveland.com.

McDonnell cites Alex Riethmiller, the vice president of communications for the NFL, who said that teams “can have a sportsbook at the stadium, but they can’t be open on days when the home team is playing there. Teams also can’t operate the sportsbook themselves and need to pick an operator,” McDonnell said.

Fans can wager from their phones during the game, though.

Cincinnati Bengals: Paycor Stadium

Like the Browns, the Bengals have also applied for a sports betting license. But not quite to the same extent as the Browns.

The Bengals applied for a mobile-only license and are partnered with Betfred Sportsbook. They were the first Ohio professional franchise to apply for a license and did so in July 2022.

Their partner, Betfred, hails from the United Kingdom and is currently available in five states. It was founded by a guy named—you guessed it—Fred. Those five states include:

  • Colorado
  • Iowa
  • Pennsylvania
  • Louisiana
  • Arizona

Betfred is also set to launch in Nevada and could also be available in Maryland. However, Maryland is not expected to launch online sports betting until late 2022. This sportsbook offers a bet-and-get welcome bonus where you’ll receive $250 in free bets for wagering $50.

Per McDonnell, team representatives told the Ohio Casino Control Commission in September that, due to the NFL policies, it would not pursue a brick-and-mortar sportsbook license.
